Singapore Airlines A380 to Tokyo starting May 20th

Singapore - Singapore Airlines said Wednesday that it would start flying the world’s largest passenger plane to Tokyo on May 20, the carrier’s third Airbus 380 destination and its first in Asia. Service to Tokyo’s Narita Airport would begin after Singapore Airlines starts to fly daily to and from London with the sumperjumbo jet on Tuesday.

The London route was made possible after Singapore Airlines, the only carrier operating the double-decker plane, took delivery of its third A380 at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France and flew it Wednesday to Singapore’s Changi Airport.

Its first two A380s, which each seat 471 passengers, are flying to and from Sydney after the inaugural commercial flight of the jet to the Australian metropolis came on October 25.

The airline has another 16 A380s on firm order and options on six more.

Flights to London’s Heathrow Airport will mark the first A380 commercial service to Europe, the carrier said.
